Earth Day Cake Pops!

Earth Day Cake Pops

Earth Day is coming up soon! In the past I haven’t really done much for this day. The last couple of years my daughter Keira was too young to really get into it. This year though we have some fun things planned. We are going to plant some fruits and vegetables at my parents house. We live in an apartment and despite my best efforts I can’t keep plants alive. It is better for the Earth if I don’t personally own plants. I am also setting up an easy recycling activity with items laid out to recycle and Keira can put them in the pretty recycle bin. I know one of the best ways to get Keira’s attention is with something yummy or a fun crafts. Like mother like daughter. I made these Earth cake pops for a party but they are perfect for Earth Day.

All you need to make them:

-Cake pops, use your favorite recipe or if you don’t know how to make cake pops you could use plain donut holes to make it easier

-Blue and green candy melts

-Lollipop sticks for the cake pops or donuts

-Toothpick

-Candy making bottle

Put the pop on the lollipop stick by dipping it in candy melts then pushing it halfway into the cake balls or donuts. Put them in the fridge to let them dry for half an hour. Dip the pop in melted blue candy melts completely covering it. Let those dry. Melt the green candy melts. Put the melted candy melts in the candy making bottle. Make a couple large dots of the green spread out on the pop. Use a toothpick to spread each one out into uneven shapes as shown in the picture. You can also use a lollipop stick to dip in the green candy melts and spread the green around on the pops.

It is an easy snack to make with kids to get them excited about Earth Day. Like I mentioned using donut holes is a great shortcut and they still taste yummy!

As a crafter I try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. I work with a lot of paper but I recycle as much as I can. I also tend to save every scrap of paper because it might have some use in the future. I know other crafters can relate to the paper and craft supplies hoarding :).

Be nice to the Earth it is the only one we have and get the kids involved too!
