A while ago I saw a centerpiece with flowers in a pineapple. Since then I have wanted to try that out. It is trouble when I am having people over and I see pineapples on sale. I bought like five pineapples! I didn’t use fancy flowers just some flowers I thought looked pretty from the grocery store. At first I was going to do painted pineapples with flowers in them. I still think that would be fun with bright color combinations, maybe next time ;). Instead I did painted pineapples and pineapples with flowers in them separately for variety.
For the flowers in a pineapple you can use a small cylinder vase. I just used a plastic cup in the pineapple to hold the flowers because my vase was too tall and I only had a small bunch of flowers.
Cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple. Then cut out the middle. You can serve the pineapple separately or use it for a recipe. Put water in a cup or vase and place it in the pineapple. You could arrange the flowers first but I wanted to see how they looked in the pineapple when I arranged.
I put hydrangeas in first on the sides, then the bottom flowers, top bunch and the mums in the middle. When arranging flowers I put the foliage in first, next the top and bottom flowers to give it shape. Then I fill in the middle and any gaps with the flowers I want as a focal point.
So pretty and the pineapple just adds a little something extra! Bright colors or exotic flowers would look great in a pineapple!
To paint the pineapples you need paint in any color you want, glitter, Mod Podge, and sponge brushes. I used pink for the bottom and gold on top.
Take a sponge brush and paint pink or any color of your choice. Wait for it to dry. Once it is dry you can put a coat of Mod Podge on top for shine.
For the top mix Mod Podge and glitter together and paint it on. I chose glitter for the top because I knew it would be more time consuming to totally cover with paint since you have to get the top and bottom of each spike.
How fun are these pineapple centerpieces?! I think it is fun to have painted pineapples and the pineapple with flowers. However, you could chose one or the other for your party!
