Unique Baby Shower Themes

Unique Baby Shower Themes

I love baby showers and being in my early (clears throat) 30s I have been to quite a few over the last couple of years. I personally am a big fan of themes and I just love to see the creative themes people come up with for baby showers. I know some people aren’t as in to themes but they really help to tie everything together. I love to do something beyond the typical baby boy theme. You really have to mix it up and bring the moms personality into the party. Think about what she’s interested in and go from there. Here are a few unique themes I have helped out with for family and friends.

A Star is Born

A star is born baby shower theme academy award cake popcorn and printables

This theme was a really fun one for a coed baby shower. We rolled out the red carpet and made it like a movie premiere. Popcorn and lots of sparkle is needed for this theme! We had magazine covers made with the couples pictures on them (you can have this done at Walgreen’s). You could have a movie/slideshow play of the couple and pictures from when they were kids. You can have a popcorn bar with all types of yummy popcorn. I made the flowers look like an academy award and the cake looked like a gorgeous award. You can use tons of star decorations for this theme. We used these awesome free printables from Hostess With The Mostess http://blog.hwtm.com/2012/02/free-printables-a-star-is-born-vintage-hollywood-baby-shower/ Also, check out there amazing party for inspiration it is on another level!

The Best Things Come in Small Packages

The best things come in small packages! This was a really fun theme. We used modern colors but you could use any color combination. You can have lots of tiny boxes wrapped up and scattered around. I made centerpieces with little stacked boxes. All the food was appetizers and small bites. We had skewers, mini hamburgers and lots of yummy mini treats. Also mini bites for dessert. Everything is just so much cuter when it is little isn’t it?!

Zen Baby Shower

This was my baby shower and I absolutely loved it! Although I think I am a lot less zen since having a kid haha. There were relaxing mint and pink colors. Buddhas, flowers, and candles! There is so much you could do with this theme. This is a perfect theme for the yoga loving mamma to be. You could have a yoga or meditation corner, relaxing decor, lots of yummy Asian foods and of course cute desserts. The candy panda cake was adorable, cupcakes with Chinese writing, and candy sushi is adorble! I had to include a picture of myself, that was me at 7 months pregnant, man was I big by the end! I didn’t have a terrible pregnancy but I really don’t miss being pregnant.

Western/Horse Theme

Hay and flowers centerpieces horse diaper cake and desserts

This theme was really fun! I live in Arizona so I grew up having Western theme parties at school. We had a thing called rodeo day that was the best day ever! Cowboy boots, hats and of course those stick horses with a sock head, do you know what I’m talking about? I’m not sure if making those is just an Arizona thing or not. For a baby shower you can decorate with bandanas, cowboy hats and little stuffed animal horses. Those hay bales that I put flowers on for centerpieces were from Michael’s. You don’t even need flowers for them just wrap them with pretty ribbon or a bandana. Little plastic cowboy boots are the cutest candy and snacks. Those can be found on Amazon. I made a diaper cake and we used that for a decoration on the dessert table.

Woodland Animals

This party was the cutest and now I am obsessed with woodland creatures! Animals are always cute for baby shower themes. Elephants, jungle animals, safari animals, kitties, and puppies. With this theme you can incorporate a lot of natural woodsy decorations like pine cones. We used birch tree straws with cute woodland animals on them. Delicious pomegranate drinks, lots of fresh salads and foods. For centerpieces I used fresh flowers with some dried moss and little pine cone animals! I made woodland cookies with foxes, squirrels and deer. We found a lot of the decorations on Amazon and some from Michael’s.

Seasonal

You can go with the season. For winter incorporate lots of snowmen and snowflakes. Spring use bright colors and tons of flowers. Summer beach baby and you are my sunshine themes are really fun. Fall harvest or little pumpkin themes are the cutest. I love embracing the season plus you might already have some seasonal decorations that you can use ;).

New Mom Glow

glowing decorations

Ok confession this picture is not from a baby shower but I think a glow party could be super cute for a baby shower. I have never seen it done but I would love to do one. They always say that pregnant women have a glow, why not have a she’s glowing baby shower! This could be really fun for a night and coed baby shower. Glow sticks are really fun(and cheap) to decorate with. Glow balloons and neon decorations are the best!

Travel Theme

Travel paris theme travel theme

Overall travel party themes are very popular right now. You can pick a destination that the mom likes and work around that. I know Paris has been done many times but you could go beyond that Australia, London, Ireland, Japan, Brazil and oh so many other places. You can find a unique destination to work around. Overall travel is always fun with planes, globes and suitcases. Being a mom is certainly a new destination so travel fits perfectly for a baby shower.
