Free Printable Paper Squishy Template

Did you know you could make your own squishy toys out of paper?! I made these cute little sea creature templates that you will definitely want to squish because they are so cute. These are perfect for summer or really any time of year. Squishy toys are all the rage(or whatever kids say these days). However, you don’t need an expensive toy when you can make your own.

Below you will find a few cute sea creatures to choose from. There is a puffer fish, manatee, narwhal, and sea turtle. Color them in any fun colors. These could also be turned into surprise bags with little toys inside.

You can also draw your own squishy to turn into a paper squishy. Kids drawings make cute a cute squish and kids will love seeing their creation turned into a cute toy.

Only a few simple materials are needed to make these DIY paper squishies.

Making the Squishy

Making paper squishy

Step 1: Print out and color in the templates. Color with crayons or markers.

Step 2: Cut out the templates along the edges.

Step 3: Place one side of the sea creature on top of the other side. I put the top side down and the bottom on top. Glue them together along the edges with a strong glue such as hot glue Leave a couple inch slit in the top for stuffing the squishy. Let the glue dry.

Step 4: Stuff the paper squishy with cotton balls, newspaper, tissues, paper towels, poly-fil, or anything soft and squishy. You don’t want to over stuff where it is exploding out the sides. However add enough stuffing to make the center puff out and give it the squishy feel. Glue the top together once it is all stuffed.

Step 5: Lay out a piece of contact paper or pieces packaging tape overlapping with the sticky side up. Make sure this is slightly wider than the sea creature. I used packaging tape but contact paper would work great!

Lay squishy on top of tape

Step 6: Place the squishy down on the tape or contact paper Cut small slits around the tape of contact paper then wrap it around the side that is on top. Press it firmly on the other side. I originally just left a little tape around all the edges and cut off the extra but it didn’t stay as well as wrapping it around.

Step 7: Repeat the tape or contact paper with the other side.

That is how you make an easy squishy toy. Kids will love making a squishy and playing with it once they are all done.
