Moana Desserts

My daughter had a Moana party and I wanted to make her some fun Moana desserts for the party. I always make all the desserts myself. Although I’m not a pastry chef I’ve discovered that anyone can make some cute desserts that kids will love. The kids were the most impressed with the Hei Hei and Pua cupcakes and they gobbled up the Tomatoa Shiny cake balls. The adults were more impressed with the cake. These ideas are all simple and there is something for everyone.

For the shiny cake balls. I made cake balls like I would when starting cake pops, just flat at the bottom. You could also use donut holes for the balls. Line them on a baking sheet with parchment paper slightly spread out. Then melt dark blue or purple candy melts. Pour it over the balls with a spoon. I made these a bit messy they were honestly a last minute idea that my daughter had so we made them together. She’s so creative and she loves that character so we had to make something shiny! Before the candy melts dry sprinkle gold sprinkles on top. That’s all you have to do for shiny cake balls! read more

Mermaid Tail Cupcakes

The mermaids are diving right into summer! Tis the time of year for mermaid parties and mermaid treats. I predict that mermaids are going to take off this summer and take over for the unicorns. Summer is just their time of year and what little or big kid(I’m talking about myself) doesn’t love mermaids. When I was young I wanted to be a mermaid. I was convinced I would turn into a mermaid at some point from all of the swimming and pretending to be a mermaid I did. Sadly that never happened. However, now I have a daughter who loves mermaids almost as much as I did. She likes to sleep with her mermaid tail blanket on. These mermaid tail cupcakes are perfect for the mermaid celebration or just for fun. Lets dive right in! read more

Clam Shell Cupcakes

Clam shell cupcakes with pearls inside

Today doesn’t feel like summer but soon enough it will be summer. This summer I am moving to Florida by the beach! I am beyond excited to be by the ocean. My daughter and I love to collect shells from the beach. She will take any piece of shell and I’m a little more picky with the ones I pick out. We have a bunch in jars that I still need to figure out what to do with. I think they make cute decorations just like that or maybe we can paint them. That’s the story of my life collecting things for later projects that never happen. She also tries to look in the shells to see if there is anything living inside or a pearl. We have found a few clam shells but nothing was left inside. I thought clam shells would make adorable treats for a beach or mermaid party! These were so easy to make! Since the frosting is on the inside it does not matter if you are a pro at piping frosting. I did use a piping bag and a star tip but you could just use a bag with the corner cut off for the frosting. read more

Ice Cream Cupcakes

Ice Cream Cake Cupcakes

Ice Cream Cupcakes

My birthday is in the middle of summer. As a kid the middle of summer in Phoenix is about 115 degrees. That meant for my birthday parties we always had pool parties. It also meant lots of ice cream. I think because of that my favorite cake has always been ice cream cake. I was never a big cake eater. For some reason I didn’t love cake. As an adult my tastes have expanded and now bring on the cake! Even though I didn’t love cake if you put some ice cream on cake I loved it. My daughter also is obsessed with ice cream! She is so funny she still is putting Christmas sprinkles on her ice cream because I bought an excessive amount of them. She will be celebrating Christmas in July with her Christmas sprinkles. I don’t make cakes very often but I love making cupcakes. That is why I made these fun ice cream cake cupcakes. They have all of the fun elements of an ice cream cake in a cupcake size. read more

Lips Valentine’s Day Cupcakes

Lips cupcakes for Valentine's Day

I am a sucker for cute and silly cupcakes! If you have been to my site before, chances are you have seen some cupcakes or other cute desserts. I don’t make anything fancy because I am not a professional. My goal with making desserts is to make them simple so myself and others can actually achieve the look. These fun little kissing lips cupcakes are really cute for Valentine’s Day. It’s a day all about love and love involves some smooches. My daughter knows I give way too many smooches. She is at the age where she isn’t wanting me to kiss her as much so I have to sneak them in when I can. She’s a little fiveager, acting like a teenager but she’s only five. It is my job as a parent to kiss her in public and embarrass her in front of her friends. These kissing lips Valentine’s Day cupcakes are a fun treat for Galentine’s parties as well. I made them a few different ways to try them out and see what looked best. I tried to give them a bit of an illustrated/cartoon look. You can get creative with how to make them. read more

Football Field Cupcake Cake

Football Field Cupcake Cake

The super bowl is right around the corner! That means time to bring out all the cute football party desserts and food. This easy football field cupcake cake is perfect for a football party. I made a couple mini cupcake cakes but you can do one lager one too! It’s the same process you would just use a whole batch of cupcakes for a larger football field cupcake cake. Mini ones are fun and you can spread them out at a party or on a dessert table. I love Super Bowl parties mainly for all of the food that people make. I can make little appetizers but usually I am on the dessert making team! These cupcakes are really easy to make and I put little M&Ms as players on the field! I thought that was a cute touch. I only wrote out a few of the field numbers because there wasn’t space for more, plus it’s easier that way. I will also share my secret for filling in the gaps of cupcakes when making a cupcake cake! read more

Cute and Simple Penguin Cupcakes

Penguin Cupcakes

Cute Penguin Cupcakes

My daughter is obsessed with penguins! Here bed looks like the stuffed animal arctic. She is building up quite the penguin collection. I think it is so adorable. The only problem is she wants to go see penguins in their natural habitat and I had to break it to her that’s not going to happen. She wants to see those emperor penguins waddling in the wild. We are Arizona girls I don’t think I could handle the cold and it would be quite the impossible trip to visit penguins in Antarctica. When I was in South Africa there were penguins and they were the cutest. Hopefully someday we can visit the beach dwelling penguins! That’s more my style. I get cold when it is 50 degrees. read more

Shiny Disco Cupcakes

DIY Disco Ball Cupcakes

Shiny Disco Cupcakes

Time to get this party started! Who doesn’t love shiny disco balls? I personally use disco balls to decorate my desk but that’s just me. These disco ball cupcakes are a fun and easy cupcake for New Years or other shiny parties! A disco bridal show would be fun too! I served them on a shiny tray I made with sparkly washi tape. You can make any kind of cupcakes and all you need to do is add white frosting and some silver sanding sugar. You can also make them in gold or pink like the disco balls shown above. I think I will do pink next! These are really fun to eat while watching the ball drop on New Years. Although, I often don’t make it up that late the sugar rush might help! read more
