It is the beginning of the year and you know what that means, time to get organized! Ok I never actually say it is time to get organized. Typically I have accepted that I am an unorganized mess and that I will always exist in a pile of stuff. However, in the past I have been in apartments and working with small amounts of space. Now I have my own office/craft room and I want to make it look nice. It is kind of in the middle of an identity crisis. Is it a guest room, craft room, office, place for my daughter to work on school work, or place for me to just pile up random stuff that doesn’t have a place yet. So far the random piles have won out over anything functional. I end up taking my computer into the kitchen because that room feels too chaotic to work in. Well that is about to change thanks to a little kick in the butt from the crafty ladies of the Craft Cult organizing the Craft Room Challenge 2018. We want you all to follow along with us and organize your own space as well! We are tackling one area at a time to make it smooth sailing and not crazy overwhelming. If I can do it you can all do it too! The best part is there are so many ladies organizing their mess of a craft room. Everyone has different supplies to organize, levels of mess, and areas of crafting that they specialize in. You can find your crafty spirit animal in this group that has the same messy issues that you do.
For me the goal for this challenge is to have a system to organize my stuff. I pile things in boxes, on my daughter little table, or just shove craft supplies in drawers. I don’t know where anything is when I need to use it. I don’t have much in the way of storage bins or shelves. I also don’t have a ton of stuff yet but as it builds up my system of just shoving things in random places creates more problems. I want things well labeled and know what is in what bin. My mom has always been obsessed with storage bins(and super organized) now I see why she loves storage bins! The more stuff you have the more places you need for it to go. Go in your home craft supplies, don’t you like your home! Until I have a real home for all of my supplies it will just float around homeless.
I also don’t have anything on my desktop unless it is piled up. Right now it is still covered in Christmas stuff. I actually think I have some Halloween stuff still in my random box of fun. This week I want to sort through everything to see what I actually will use because I tend to keep things that I will never use again. Then I need to sort things in to categories. Once I figure out what the categories are and what I have I should be able to figure out a system for each category of craft supplies. I do a lot of random little crafts so I have a range of craft supplies from paint, paper, glues, and ribbons.
Question, for those of you with kids what do you do with all the papers/crafts your kids make at school and the teacher sends home? My daughters pile of papers is surpassing mine since I don’t want to throw that stuff away but I have no clue what to do with it all. Ok, I do throw away some of it, ssshhh don’t tell her!
My closet is home to a random collection of things including water bottles(we stocked up during hurricane season), gardening supplies, files, games, and craft supplies. I need a system in here to keep my craft stuff separate than the random stuff.
What I am most excited with the craft room challenge is creating a functional and cute space that makes me want to go in and get inspired. It has to be easy for me to keep organized or I wont do it and everything will turn in to a craftnado again. This is going to be my happy place for blogging and crafting! A sparkly, fun, crafty, and bright place for me to unleash my creative crafty self. Since we have only been in our home for 6 months we still have stuff to get settled and I want it to really feel like a home. If I don’t do this now it will be 3 years down the road and I will have gotten nothing settled. That is everything I have to tackle in my craft room. What obstacles do you have to tackle in your craft space?
