Spring and summer are a great time for some butterfly crafts. Butterflies are so pretty and their beautiful colors make them perfect for crafting! These free printable butterfly templates are so easy to use for crafts and coloring.

The free butterfly templates come in a variety of designs most of them are a simple design but there are also a few more detailed butterfly templates. The templates come in a tiny, small, medium, and large size. There are also options for color or black and white. There are beautiful butterfly coloring pages if you just want a relaxing butterfly coloring sheet.

How can you use these beautiful butterflies? They can be used for young kids crafts developing fine motor skills, classroom use for decorations or crafts, party decorations, a butterfly stencil, or butterfly coloring pages. At the end of this post I will give you a few ideas for simple butterfly crafts with kids.

How to print the butterfly templates and free butterfly coloring pages

 

 

To use the templates and print them out follow these easy steps.

1. Download the digital pdf file for the template you want to use. All you have to do is click on the blue CLICK HERE text above the image. You will need a pdf reader to open up the pdf file once it is downloaded.

2. Once you have the template you want it is time to print. These printables are for personal use, non-commercial use but you can print them out several times for a group to use or print out several templates. Print them on a home printer or at a local print shop. You can just print on white printer paper, colorful 8.5×11″ paper, or white card stock paper for a thicker paper.

3. Once you have printed out the templates you can color directly on the sheet of paper or cut out the templates. You can trace the butterflies on to construction paper for colorful butterflies.

This next butterfly is a monarch style butterfly. Monarchs are my favorite butterflies! This butterfly has a smaller body and large butterfly wings with a pretty pattern on the wings. There are options for just the outline, one with more details filled in and a colorful monarch. The black details give a good outline for monarch coloring pages. It can also be printed on orange paper to get a full colorful butterfly! I included orange colorful monarch butterflies too.

This butterfly has large wings and has a very pretty look. It is a classic butterfly outline.

Butterfly Craft ideas

 

Here are a few ideas for ways to use the templates for butterfly crafts.

This fun craft just involves putting small pieces of tissue paper on a butterfly outline. Add glue from a glue stick to the template. Then put small pieces of tissue paper on top of the glue. This creates a pretty butterfly with just a few supplies!

Make a butterfly sun catcher. Use one of the simple butterfly outlines. Cut out the inside of the butterfly outline. Add contact paper to the back of the butterfly sticky side up. Stick small pieces of tissue paper to the butterfly.

Make a fun simple butterfly craft with pipe cleaners, googley eyes, pom poms, and other craft materials to decorate the paper butterfly.

Make a flying butterfly. This is great to do with a butterfly that has more details. Color and cut out the butterfly. Then fold it in half and then fold the wings back outward. Poke a hole in the center with a bamboo skewer or punch a hole in the center. Stick a bamboo skewer through the middle of the hole. Then take a plastic straw and cut a slit in the top. Slide this over the skewer and then tape the straw to the bottom of the wings.

Make a simple butterfly wand. Decorate a butterfly with any craft supplies you want. Then tape the cut out butterfly on to a wooden dowel or paper straw. Add ribbon or strands of tissue paper to the bottom to make a pretty wand.

Use the wings to turn dolls into butterflies! This is fun for even a fairy party or kids pretend play!

Make wearable butterfly’s wings. These delicate wings are so fun for kids to wear. You can also add tape to the wings for kids to make nature wings with flowers and leaves.

Use small butterflies in a butterfly garden. You can cover them with clear packaging tape or laminate them so they don’t fall apart outside.

Trace a butterfly outline on black paper. Add dots of paint to one side of the butterfly with q tips.. Press the wings together then pull them apart to make a pretty paint effect.
