Paper Plate Kids Christmas Crafts
Here are a few fun ideas for paper plate Christmas crafts to make with young kids. These are perfect for preschool and early elementary school kids.
There are different options to choose from but most of them use simple materials such as paper plates, paint, and googley eyes.
If you want to make things even easier I have some fun printables that can be added to paper plates for easy crafts including these cute penguins and snowmen! Perfect for a winter scene.
4 Easy Paper Plate Craft for Christmas
First up are these easy Santa hat paper plates. They are super easy to make with young kids in a couple steps.
Supplies to make the paper plate Santa hats:
Paper plates
Red paint
Scissors
White school glue. I like Elmer’s.
Cotton balls
- Paint the paper plate with red paint covering it completely. You could leave the edge white but with little kids it’s easier for them just to paint the whole thing.
- Let the paint dry. If kids are getting impatient waiting for the paint to dry you can dab off some of the paint with a paper towel.
- Cut the plate in half.
- Then cut the halves into thirds so you will have a total of 6 pieces. They will be in the shape of a triangle.
- Next take Elmer’s school glue and cover the bottom edge of the plate with paint.
- Add cotton balls to the glue.
- Add a dot of glue on the top of the triangle.
- Put one cotton ball on the top.
- Let the glue dry and you have some Santa hats!
- Optional: These hats can make a cute Christmas banner. Punch two holes towards the top of the hat, one on each side. Then string a ribbon through the holes. Hang it up for a cute Christmas decoration!
Paper Plate Reindeer
These cute reindeer are such an easy kids craft! The googley eyes make them extra fun.
Supplies:
Paper plates
Brown paint
Red pom pom
Gold or brown pipe cleaner
Googley eyes
- First paint the paper plate with brown paint.
- Wait for the paint to dry.
- Cut the paper plate in half.
- Cut each half into thirds. This will make triangle shapes for the reindeer.
- Put two dots of glue in the middle of the triangle with the pointed edge facing down.
- Add googley eyes on top of the glue.
- Put another dot of glue on the bottom point of the triangle.
- Add a red or brown pom pom on top.
- Take a gold or brown pipe cleaner and bend it in half.
- Make a v shape on the top of both of the sides of the pipe cleaner.
Paper plate Christmas tree!
This is another easy paper plate craft. It uses the same technique as the last two where you get 6 crafts for the price of one! Each plate makes 6 Christmas trees.
Supplies:
Paper plate
Green paint
Hole punch
Colorful paper
Pom poms
- Paint a paper plate green covering the whole plate.
- Let the paint dry.
- Cut the plate in half.
- Cut each half in three pieces.
- Take the hole punch and punch holes in three different colors of paper.
- Glue the small hole punched circles on to the piece of the plate spread out over the tree.
- Glue a yellow or colorful pom pom on top of the tree.
Snow Globe Paper Plate Craft
Last but not least a paper plate snow globe. This one is fun because the snow moves around!
Supplies:
2 paper plates
Glue paint
Black and orange marker
White tissue paper
A plastic bag or plastic wrap
- Paint the top 2/3 of a paper plate light blue.
- Let the paint dry.
- Cut two circles out of a piece of white paper. I traces around a paper towel roll for the circle shape.
- Glue the circles in the middle of the plate one on top of the other with the bottom circle starting at the top of the white portion of the plate.
- Draw a face on the snowman with black marker for the eyes and mouth. Then orange for the carrot nose.
- You can add trees next to the snowman with green triangle paper for the trees. Glue them on to the plate next to the snowman.
- Cut up tissue paper into small pieces and add it on top of the snowman.
- Take plastic wrap or half of a large plastic bag and cover the top of the plate with the plastic wrap.
- Tape it in the back of the plate.
- Take another paper plate and cut out the center leaving only the outer edge.
- Put glue along the edge of bottom plate and add the plate with the center cut out facing down.
- Now you have a snow globe paper plate craft!
I hope you had fun making paper plate Christmas crafts. These crafts are all easy to make with young kids this holiday season.
