Black Cat Cupcakes

Black Cat Cupcakes - Val Event Gal

I’m getting ready for Halloween and what says Halloween more than black cats? Some people think of black cats as unlucky but I think they are cute! I had a mostly black cat when I was a kid. My parents let me pick out a cat when I was 5. Parents, do not let your kids get a pet unless you really want it to. My parents learned that the hard way. I named the cat Sarah because they told us it was a girl and I wanted a girl cat. Then we took her to get fixed and they told us Sarah was a Sam, meaning it was a boy cat. Then we called him Sammy. That cat was a bit of nightmare. He loved to bite and hated people. Most cats don’t like too many people but this one hated everyone. Except my mom, she spoiled him rotten and he loved her. In the end Sammy ended up being her cat. Seriously, don’t let a 5 year old pick out a pet they will never take care of it like they promise.  He was a pretty black cat though. I am not superstitious at all I think a black cat is just a cute cat. These black cat cupcakes are the perfect combination of creepy and cute! That is usually the goal for Halloween with a four year old a bit of creepy but still cute. My daughter thought they looked like owls, which you could do too just without the ears it’s an owl. read more

Glowing Eyeball Halloween Balloons

Glowing Eyeball Halloween Ballooons - Val Event Gal - Copy

I’m really feeling all of the eyeballs I have been seeing in the Halloween decorations.I want to make an eyeball everything! Okay, I’m a little bit weird and I enjoy that for Halloween you are allowed to be weird. Adults don’t get to have enough fun, dress up and be weirdos. Halloween is all about embracing your inner weirdo and bringing it out to play. Not in a creepy way or anything, but a fun way! Although I do get to dress up on occasion with my daughter. Usually with hats and scarves. I am typically the bad guy because well when is mommy not the bad guy?! My Ursula impression from The Little Mermaid is spot on because I’ve been working on it for about a year. Anyways back to the eyeballs. Seeing all of the eyeballs I thought maybe I can make some sort of eye ball decorations from what I have at my place. Balloons and tissue paper are something I always have a ton of! All I needed was some glow sticks. These glowing eyeball Halloween balloons are perfect decorations for a party! You can’t make them too far ahead of time because the glow only lasts for so long but you can put them together really fast before a party. read more

Witches Brew Pudding in Chocolate Bowls

Witches Brew Pudding in Chocolate Bowls

Halloween is coming up. Okay, it isn’t for over a month but I am in full Halloween mode. It is still too early for some of the Halloween preparations but I am still getting ready. I haven’t done a lot for fall but the Halloween decorations are coming out! We have spiders, cats, black and orange all around. I’ve been talking to my daughter about Halloween, but I don’t want to get her too excited too early. Then she will get impatient and want to wear her costume in September. Right now she says she wants to be a witch. This is her third or fourth idea. She went from pumpkin to princess, then princess superhero and now she wants to be a witch. I probably wont be able to get her costume until a week before Halloween because she will change her mind. My creative 4 year old! Every witch needs a good witches brew. I wanted to create some Halloween desserts but I have to try them out before the holiday to see what works. The witches brew pudding in chocolate bowls were so easy to make and perfect for Halloween. I was going to say they are adorable but I don’t know if eyes and bones are adorable. I guess in candy form anything can be adorable! read more

Halloween Crafts

I love love doing arts and crafts with Keira. However, I am not a fan of cleaning up after. It seems impossible for us to do arts and crafts without making a ginormous mess. Even with a huge tarp down we end up with paint and glitter on the carpet. As much as I love glitter it is banned from inside the house because glitter seems to multiple and stick to everything. We use the glitter pens and glitter glue so we still get our fill of glitter without the mess. I wanted to make some Halloween crafts/decorations that wouldn’t leave a huge mess. These would be great last minute crafts for Halloween day. I had all the materials but you could put it together with Target items and the Dollar Tree. read more

Spooky Treats!

Easy Halloween Desserts! Graveyard cupcakes, ghost pops, spiderweb cupcakes and more

Halloween is probably my all-time favorite holiday. You get to dress up in fun costumes and people give you candy, how bad can that be? I think it is the little kid in me (or sugar addict) that loves this holiday so much. One of the best things about being a mom is being able to relive your childhood and act like a kid again. Sadly people would think it was weird if a 30 year old woman dressed up and went trick or treating without a kid. To get ready for Halloween I made some easy Halloween desserts with my daughter. These are all easy enough for kids to help out with, especially the cupcakes. read more
