Free Printable Fish Hand Puppets

 

This printable craft is the perfect easy summer craft kids will love. Nothing says summer like under the sea fun, but really you can make these big mouth fish puppets year round. I’m not sure if thats the real name for this kind of puppet but thats what I call them. Here you will find a cute fish, a scary deep water fish, and a shark. It is almost shark week so I had to add a little sharky fun. I apologize if that leads to any baby shark singing.

Included you will find a coloring version and a color version. Its fun for kids to color their fish however they imagine, but the color ones are great for pretend play. You can als use them for games. I will add some ideas for how to use them below at the bottom of this post.

Printing the Fish Puppets

 

To print the free printable fish and shark puppet templates download the digital file by clicking on the title of the printable you would like to print. You will find this right above the image of the fish. Once you open the file click the download button. That should save it to your computer or phone. Then print on either regular printer paper or white cardstock paper. I just printed on printer paper and they worked great. Then you will cut them out and assemble the puppets. These puppets are all for personal use not commercial use.

First up is this cute clown fish puppet. There is a coloring and color version. Feel free to use one or both versions. The coloring version has lines so you can see where to fold it but you can fold it above and below the mouth too. Fold the top part of the fish back and the bottom part back then fold it forward in the middle.

Anglerfish puppet is up next. The color version has the lines to show where to fold the puppet. This keeps the teeth showing when it is folded.

Next is the shark puppet. For this puppet you will fold the top part right at the line above the teeth and below the bottom teeth line. Fold both of those back and then fold it forward in the middle of the line.

To make the puppets

 

Cut out the fish or shark outline. Then cut out the handle strips. These pieces will be used to open and close the puppet. Then fold the top part of the fish backwards at the top of the mouth or right above the mouth. Fold the bottom of the fish backwards at the bottom of the mouth or right below the mouth. Then fold it forward in the middle of the mouth. Attach the straps in the back to the folded mouth part with tape.

You can use these puppets for pretend play or just as a fun craft. Play a game with them by picking up pipe cleaner “fish”. draw an under sea world to go with the fish and shark. Have them read a fun book about fish or under the sea stories. Use your imagination with fun ways to use these puppets.
