This is a perfect time of year to throw a mermaid party! I have loved mermaids since I was a kid! I used to play with The Little Mermaid toys in the bath and try to sing like Ariel. My sister and I got about 10 toys from happy meals at McDonalds. Back in the day when it was a part of our weekly routine to get happy meals. I miss the days of happy meals. My grandmother used to also like to play mermaids with us kids. She would pretend like the hammock was a net and she caught us. We would put pool rings around our ankles to be able to swim like a mermaid. I was basically part fish with the amount of time I swam around in the pool playing mermaid. The mermaids are diving right into summer! Tis the time of year for mermaid parties and mermaid treats. I predict that mermaids are going to take off this summer and take over for the unicorns. Summer is just their time of year and what little or big kid(I’m talking about myself) doesn’t love mermaids. When I was young I wanted to be a mermaid. I was convinced I would turn into a mermaid at some point from all of the swimming and pretending to be a mermaid I did. Sadly that never happened. However, now I have a daughter who loves mermaids almost as much as I did. She likes to sleep with her mermaid tail blanket on. Clam Shell Cupcakes

Today doesn’t feel like summer but soon enough it will be summer. This summer I am moving to Florida by the beach! I am beyond excited to be by the ocean. My daughter and I love to collect shells from the beach. She will take any piece of shell and I’m a little more picky with the ones I pick out. We have a bunch in jars that I still need to figure out what to do with. I think they make cute decorations just like that or maybe we can paint them. That’s the story of my life collecting things for later projects that never happen. She also tries to look in the shells to see if there is anything living inside or a pearl. We have found a few clam shells but nothing was left inside. I thought clam shells would make adorable treats for a beach or mermaid party! These were so easy to make! Since the frosting is on the inside it does not matter if you are a pro at piping frosting. I did use a piping bag and a star tip but you could just use a bag with the corner cut off for the frosting. read more

Summer is coming up and do you know what that means, mermaids! When I was a kid(okay also as an adult) I was obsessed with mermaids. My sister, cousins, and I would pretend to be mermaids. My grandmother would put us in the hammock and pretend that we were mermaids in a net. Bath time got a little splashy with splashing our mermaid tails. My parents had to sit through The Little Mermaid about fifty million times and that’s barely exaggerating! I’m a mermaid on the inside and this week on the blog I am letting my mermaid love out with some fun mermaid party ideas. I’m always trying to make fruits and vegetables more enticing for my daughter. She likes fruit, vegetables she wont do unless there is ranch involved. I’ve found she likes fruit better when I make it into something cute. I also like to use candy eyes whenever I can. Everything is cuter with candy eyes. You don’t have to put candy eyes on all of the fruit like I did(I know it’s a bit much) but a few of them Is cute! I thought for summer under the sea fruit would be cute for fun and parties. read more

Mermaid Party Backdrop

My love of mermaids runs deep and that has not changed since I was five, maybe younger. Of course as a mom I introduced my daughter to The Little Mermaid. I watched it a million times when I was a kid and now I watch it a million times with my daughter. Does life get any better than that?! Seriously it brings me so much joy to see her get as excited about the same movie I loved as a kid. Now I have to be the sea witch instead of Ariel but still I love it! Luckily when I’m planning parties I get to act like a kid and use my imagination. Adults do not get to do this enough. I made this beautiful mermaid party backdrop for a candy table. It could also work for a photo backdrop or wall decoration. The materials are cheap but it is a bit time consuming to make. Definitely worth the effort on this one! You could also make this fan backdrop for different themes with different colors. I think it is perfect for a mermaid, under the sea or beach theme since the fans resemble shells. read more

Jellyfish Marshmallow Pops!

This week I am all about the mermaid party fun! Mermaids are a little tricky to make into sweets so I decided to make jellyfish marshmallow pops. They are super easy to make and adorable for an under the sea or mermaid party. I have been on a marshmallow pop kick, as much as I love cake pops they are more time consuming and when you are a busy mom shortcuts are always good. Spending hours in the kitchen is not always an option and no bake is the best! I have also been on a candy eye kick lately. I promise I will take a break from the candy eyes. I think this is my third blog post using candy eyes in a week haha. They just make everything so cute and my daughter loves them! read more

Mermaid Party Favors with free printable tags

When I was a kid I basically thought I was a mermaid. I loved to swim and would put a ring around my feet to keep them together like a mermaid tail. Anyone else do this? When you live in Arizona as a kid you are basically a mermaid living in the water half the year. It is disappointing when you grow up and realize you will never actually be a mermaid. Thanks mom and dad, you told me I could grow up to be anything I wanted to be! While I have come to terms with the fact that I will never be a mermaid I have not given up on sparkles and mermaid party fun! This weeks theme is mermaids! I am a little late starting this week since my daughter just started school again and I am getting back in a routine. School seems to start earlier every year.
